Jonathan Edgar concentrates his national practice on commercial litigation, with a focus on contract disputes, business torts, and complex business litigation. Mr. Edgar has litigated cases under several federal statutes, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, civil RICO, the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and the Anti-Terrorism Act. He has litigated a variety of state law claims, including breach of contract, products liability, negligence, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, violations of state consumer protection statutes, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference with contract or prospective business relationships, business defamation, breach of express and implied warranties, construction claims, conversion, action on an account and unjust enrichment.
Mr. Edgar has experience obtaining all forms of relief for his clients, including injunctive relief such as temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions. He represents clients in both federal and state courts, as well as in commercial arbitration forums. He has national experience defending voluminous actions and class actions consolidated in a single multidistrict litigation proceeding, including In re Peanut Butter Products Liability Litigation (N.D.Ga) and In re Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001 (S.D.N.Y.). Mr. Edgar also advises clients nationally on a variety of pre-litigation matters relating to commercial contracts with a view toward avoiding litigation.
Mr. Edgar earned his Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University and his Juris Doctor from George Washington University Law School, with honors, where he was a member of the International Law Review. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia and before several federal courts.
