John D. Muir focuses his practice on real estate investments, joint ventures and commercial financing transactions. Mr. Muir represents national institutional investors and asset managers, as well as regional investor groups and individual owners in a wide range of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions and financings of office buildings, hotels, resorts, shopping centers, multi-family residential projects and mixed-use development projects. He also has extensive experience in representing national and international lenders in senior and mezzanine acquisition, construction and bridge loans and refinancings of all real estate asset types across the country. In addition, Mr. Muir has worked with clients in the formation of real estate investment funds. He is a member of Katten’s Real Estate Investors/Funds and Distressed Assets team.
Mr. Muir has been involved in the acquisition of distressed hotels and multi-family apartment projects in addition to handling distressed real estate asset management issues, loan workouts, restructurings and enforcement proceedings on behalf of commercial lenders, investors and borrowers, and providing general advisory services for various investment funds and developers.
Mr. Muir is the recipient of the District Alliance for Safe Housing 2011 Pillar Award which recognizes community partners for their outstanding service to the organization.
Mr. Muir graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in European History and holds a law degree from Brooklyn Law School. He is admitted to practice law in New York, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
