Jason P. Shaffer has extensive experience in pre-litigation counseling and all aspects of litigation, including mediation, arbitration and trial. He concentrates his practice on complex business litigation, disputes related to the financial services industry, enforcement proceedings before government agencies, and internal corporate investigations.
Mr. Shaffer’s business litigation experience includes the litigation of complex contracts, disputes within partnerships and closely-held corporations, and fraud and breach of fiduciary duty claims. His experience in financial services litigation includes representing firms and their agents in enforcement actions and civil disputes relating to securities, options, commodities and futures. In both of these areas, Mr. Shaffer has an extensive record of obtaining favorable results either through settlements or as a result of contested hearings, including trial. Finally, Mr. Shaffer has represented clients from different industries in connection with enforcement proceedings by government agencies and participated in comprehensive internal corporate investigations involving potential violations of federal law and regulations.
Mr. Shaffer earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Cedarville College in 1997 and his Juris Doctor, with honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2000, where he was an executive articles editor and member of the executive board for the Chicago-Kent Law Review. While at Chicago-Kent, Mr. Shaffer also served as a judicial extern in the Northern District of Illinois for the Honorable Ann Claire Williams.
