Intellectual Property Partner Karen Artz Ash Provides Perspective on Madrid Protocol and Other Traditional Trademark Filing Practices

In the article, "Madrid Protocol - Just Another Option: Foreign Trademark Protection Following U.S.Membership in the Madrid Protocol," Ms. Ash provides an overview of the Madrid Protocol and traditional foreign filing practices.  As membership in the Madrid Protocol continues to expand, it presents a filing opportunity that may be advantageous to some U.S. applicants.  At this time, the author notes, the advantages are far from universal or clear and trademark owners should not abandon tried and true methods protecting their marks.  The article appears online in the Patent, Trademark and Copy Journal (BNA), Analysis & Perspective Section, November 28, 2003.
