How To Avoid Trademark Disputes In Light Of The Madrid Protocol
March 31, 2004
Now that entrepreneurs in more than 50 countries can obtain trademark protection in the U.S. as a result of the Madrid Protocol, Intellectual Property Partner Karen Artz Ash advises U.S. business owners to hire a trademark attorney to conduct a preliminary search and a follow-up after three to six months to determine if intent to use has been filed during the two to four month post registration filing period in another country. Doing so could avoid costly disputes over use of the trademark. Ms. Ash was interviewed for the article, The Name Game, by Jane Easter, published Entrepreneur Magazine (April 4).
