Hassan Abbas Shakir is a Registered Patent Attorney and a Licensed Professional Engineer whose practice is focused in patent prosecution in the areas of mechanical, electrical, computer and Internet-related arts.  He counsels clients in the medical device, automotive and technology industries on freedom to operate, provides product clearances, and invalidity and non-infringement opinions of domestic and international patents and works closely with them to develop non-infringing options for proposed products and processes.  He is experienced in trademark and patent infringement litigation and unfair competition litigation.

Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. Shakir was an engineer for more than 12 years with the New York State Government, designing and managing multi-million dollar projects.  After earning his law degree, Mr. Shakir was associated with law firms in Stamford, Connecticut and New York City where he concentrated in servicing the medical device and automotive industry, as well as Internet-related companies.

Education and Affiliations

Mr. Shakir received a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Oklahoma (1988) and his J.D. from Albany Law School (2000). He is licensed to practice in New York, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and before the U.S. Court of International Trade.

He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the New York State Bar Association, including its Intellectual Property Law Section.

Mr. Shakir is fluent in German.
