Gregory S. Korman concentrates his practice in litigation and dispute resolution, representing financial services and other clients in a wide variety of business litigation matters, with a focus on commercial and consumer finance issues. Mr. Korman has handled individual and class actions involving all types of financial products, including credit cards, residential mortgages, commercial mortgages, mezzanine loans and negotiable instruments. Mr. Korman regularly advises on and litigates issues arising from state and federal consumer protection laws including the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Consumer Legal Remedies Act and California's Unfair Competition Law. He also has substantial experience litigating the preemptive effect of federal banking statutes and regulations.

Mr. Korman’s significant published opinions include:
  • The Formula, Inc. v. Superior Court, 168 Cal.App.4th 1455, 86 Cal.Rptr.3d 341 (2008) (case of first impression in California deciding the extraterritorial effect of lis pendens)
  • Davis v. HSBC Bank Nevada, N.A., 557 F.3d 1026 (9th Cir. 2009) (modifying the Ninth Circuit’s principal place of business test for national retailers and reversing a remand order under CAFA)
  • Marcotte v. General Elec. Capital Svcs. Inc., 709 F.Supp.2d 994, 999-1000 (S.D.Cal. 2010) (holding periodic billing statements are not communications under California’s fair debt collection practices act)

Mr. Korman earned his Bachelor of Science in public policy and management from the University of Southern California. He earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Loyola Law School, where he was Order of the Coif, a Sayre McNeil Scholar and a member of the Entertainment Law Review. Mr. Korman is admitted to practice in all California state courts, all California federal district courts,and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Mr. Korman has been recognized as a Southern California Rising Star by Los Angeles magazine and Southern California Rising Stars magazine for the past three years.
