CHICAGO—Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP announced today that Mara S. Georges, who served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago for the last 12 years, has joined the firm as a partner.

At Katten, Ms. Georges will be responsible for advising clients on matters involving federal, state and local levels of government on a variety of issues including zoning, land use and planning.

“We have long admired Mara’s exemplary work on behalf of the City,” said Vincent A.F. Sergi, Katten’s National Managing Partner. “She enjoys an outstanding reputation in the Chicago legal and business communities and we know that she will bring tremendous value to our clients in a number of areas of the firm.”

The longest serving Corporation Counsel in Chicago history, Ms. Georges joined the City’s Department of Law in 1997 as First Assistant Corporation Counsel and was appointed head of the Department in 1999. In that capacity, she oversaw 300 lawyers and served as the City’s senior advisor on legal and policy issues.

“In returning to private practice, I sought a firm to which I could bring both my significant experience and breadth of knowledge,” Ms. Georges said. “Katten is a well-established yet growing firm with a reputation for serving not only as skilled attorneys to their clients but also as trusted business advisors who they can turn to for assistance. I look forward to expanding on the great work the firm already is doing.”

Ms. Georges has received numerous honors for her work, including being named a “Super Lawyer” by Chicago magazine, one of the “Ten Most Influential Women Lawyers in Illinois” by American Lawyer Media and one of the “100 Most Powerful Women in Chicago” by the Chicago Sun-Times, and receiving the 2011 Annual Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois Institute for Local Government Law.
