Edward H. Cohen concentrates his practice in corporate and securities law, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions and public company representation.
He has provided legal counsel and service to a large number of clients, both public and private, particularly in the mergers and acquisitions field. Although the clients he counsels are involved in a number of diverse businesses, he has been especially involved in the apparel industry.
Associations and Committees
Mr. Cohen is a member of the Federal Regulation of Securities Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Business Law and of the Securities and Corporations and Other Business Entities Committees of the New York State Bar Association's Section of Business Law. He is the former chair of the Corporations and Other Business Entities Committee and the Corporations Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association. He is a director of Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation, a New York Stock Exchange listed apparel company, Franklin Electronic Publishers, Incorporated, an American Stock Exchange listed electronics company, Merrimac Industries, Inc., an American Stock Exchange listed manufacturer of RF and microwave components, and Levcor International, Inc., a textile converter. He is also the founder of the SEC Midtown Discussion Group.
Lectures and Articles
Mr. Cohen has lectured on mergers and acquisitions for the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and for the continuing education programs of New York University, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Johnson School of Cornell University. Additionally, he has been a lecturer for several Executive Enterprise programs on securities laws.
Education
Mr. Cohen received his undergraduate degree with distinction (B.A., 1960) from the University of Michigan and his law degree magna cum laude (J.D., 1963) from Harvard Law School, where he was an Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
