Douglas L. Noren concentrates his practice in real estate finance, including first mortgage loans, construction, mezzanine and structured financings, and preferred equity investments. Mr. Noren's practice also includes property and loan pool acquisitions and dispositions, office and retail leasing, joint ventures, and workouts of troubled assets.

Transactions in which Mr. Noren has participated include the following:
  • Purchase of approximately 900,000 acres of timberlands and related debt and equity capitalization, and subsequent disposition of the venture.
  • Acquisition and financing of Block 37 development in Chicago.
  • Acquisition of $300 million loan portfolio.
  • Sale of $320 million loan portfolio.
  • Build-to-suit and long-term lease of aluminum remelter facility.
  • Preferred equity investments in shopping center and multi-family properties.
  • Formation of venture and mortgage financing for development of retail and condominium project in Chicago.
  • Sale and leaseback transactions.
  • Sales of numerous single tenant credit lease properties.
  • Formation of tenant-in-common syndicated ventures and acquisition and financing of office buildings utilizing TIC structure, as well as representation of lenders to TIC borrowers.
  • Workouts of condominium and mixed-use projects and closings of numerous deed in lieu of foreclosure transactions.
  • Representation of landlord in 90,000 square foot office lease with construction of 13,000 square foot adjoining showroom building.

Mr. Noren is the past chairman of the Chicago Bar Association’s Real Estate Finance Subcommittee, and is active in the Chicago Mortgage Attorneys Association. He has been recognized as a leading real estate attorney by Illinois Super Lawyers.

Mr. Noren earned his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and his Juris Doctor from Northwestern University. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and New York.
