Decisions Examine Jurisdiction Over Infringers In Cyberspace

The issue of whether a U.S. court has jurisdiction over an alleged Internet infringer located outside U.S. borders has become a very hot topic. This article discusses two recent decisions, including one as-of-yet-unpublished order issued by the U.S. District Court in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. v. Grokster Ltd. , 01-08541/01-09923 (C.D. Cal., Jan. 9, 2003), which should help clarify the legal boundaries of personal jurisdiction in cyberspace.
