David B. Sherman concentrates his practice in intellectual property matters with an emphasis on trademark licensing, clearance, registration, prosecution, agreement administration, monitoring and portfolio management; logos and branding; copyrights; advertising; celebrity endorsement and the right of publicity; product labeling; anti-counterfeiting; and intellectual property-related diligence and corporate transactions. Mr. Sherman is also interested in emerging Internet and social media law issues. He has provided counseling to businesses and individuals regarding domain name disputes, online creative content, and online trademark and copyright infringement.

Mr. Sherman regularly represents clients in the fashion, apparel, music, entertainment, media, publishing, banking, financial services, food and beverage, health care, wellness, technology and consumer products industries.

Mr. Sherman has performed significant pro bono work with Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS), including overseeing Katten's participation in VOLS's Microenterprise Project, for which the Firm won a VOLS Pro Bono Award in 2009. On July 13, 2010, at a reception held at Gracie Mansion, the VOLS Microenterprise Project was selected for recognition by Mayor Bloomberg and the City of New York as part of its Neighborhood Achievement Awards. As part of the project, Mr. Sherman has provided one-on-one legal consultation, and developed and delivered educational courses on intellectual property to low-income entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout New York City. In December 2011, Mr. Sherman was invited by the Executive Director of VOLS to serve on, and assist in the formation of, the Advisory Council for the Microenterprise Project.

Mr. Sherman earned his Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University in 2004 and his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2007. During law school, he served as an extern to the Honorable Joel A. Pisano, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Mr. Sherman is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
