David R. Dlugie is head of the Chicago Real Estate Practice and a member of Katten’s Board of Directors. Mr. Dlugie concentrates his practice in real estate law and has represented lenders and borrowers in loan transactions in which the loans are secured by real estate; developers and lenders in acquiring and selling real estate; and landlords and tenants in leasing office space. He has extensive experience representing institutional lenders in loan origination, as well as workouts of distressed assets from their commercial mortgage and mezzanine loan programs and their conduit mortgage loan programs. Mr. Dlugie also has worked extensively with clients on securitizations of conduit loans, as well as the sales of distressed and performing loans both on a one-off and pool of loans basis. In addition, he has worked with various clients in the formation of partnerships and limited liability companies in the real estate area.

Mr. Dlugie is a member of the Chicago Mortgage Attorneys Association, the Real Estate Law Conference Advisory Board, the CRE Finance Council and the Chicago Bar Association Real Property Committee, and serves on the firm’s Limited Liability Company Task Force. Mr. Dlugie has been listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2007–2012), The Best Lawyers in America (2010–2013), Illinois Super Lawyers (2007–2013) and the Leading Lawyers Network for Real Estate Law: Commercial and Real Estate Law: Finance. He has been highlighted in Legal 500 United States: Volume IV Real Estate (2007–2010) as having extensive experience in representing institutional lenders in their commercial mortgage and mezzanine loan programs, as well as conduit mortgage loan programs and the later securitization of such conduit loans.

Mr. Dlugie attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a bachelor’s degree with highest honors, a master’s degree in accounting, and a law degree. Mr. Dlugie worked with the Financial Accounting Standards Board in Stamford, Connecticut, from August 1982 through July 1983. He then joined Katten upon graduating from law school.
