David J. Stagman concentrates his practice in complex civil, white collar and financial services litigation at the trial court and appellate court levels. Mr. Stagman has an extensive and successful record representing corporate and individual clients in many industries in complex litigation, enforcement and white-collar criminal matters, including governmental investigations involving the Securities Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Department of Justice and multiple state Departments of Insurance. He has extensive experience in internal investigations and ancillary litigation.
Mr. Stagman has represented and counseled international financial institutions, national banks, broker-dealers, futures commission merchants and hedge funds in a variety of litigation and regulatory matters. He has handled nationwide class actions over the past eight years in matters relating to subprime mortgages, and concentrates on all aspects of mortgage-related litigation. Mr. Stagman also handles class action litigation brought under securities laws or relating to the financial services industry, and has represented officers, directors and issuers in shareholder class actions, derivative suits and SEC investigations.
Mr. Stagman’s commercial litigation experience also includes representing clients in other complex litigation, including fraud and RICO suits, complex contract disputes, employment matters, disputes within partnerships and closely-held corporations and insurance cases.
Mr. Stagman graduated from Princeton University in 1986, received a Masters degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago in 1989 and received his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1993. He was an associate editor of the Northwestern Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Board and a staff member for two years with the Northwestern School of Law Legal Clinic.
