David F. Benson concentrates his practice in litigation and dispute resolution, with an emphasis on complex commercial and class actions. Mr. Benson has litigated dozens of matters in state and federal courts and has taken cases to hearing before the American Arbitration Association and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. He has conducted internal investigations, and defended clients in connection with CFTC and SEC investigations and U.S. Department of Justice inquiries. Since joining Katten in 2003, Mr. Benson has represented publicly traded companies, financial institutions, hospitals, real estate developers, and closely held corporations, as well as individual officers and directors.

Mr. Benson earned his Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from Vanderbilt University in 1999. After graduation, he worked as an executive compensation consultant at Hewitt Associates LLC.

In 2003, Mr. Benson earned his Juris Doctor, with honors, from Chicago-Kent College. During law school, Mr. Benson was a notes & comments editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review, and served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Ann Claire Williams of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Honorable Arlander Keys of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Upon graduation, Mr. Benson was awarded a Public Interest Law Initiative (“PILI”) Fellowship with the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee For Civil Rights Under Law, Inc.

Mr. Benson has published articles in both the Chicago-Kent Law Review and The Holy Cross Journal of Law & Public Policy. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and before U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Western District of Michigan. Mr. Benson is an active member of the American Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association.
