Expect Something Different
Sabbaticals

All Associates who have completed five years of service at the Firm are eligible for, and strongly encouraged to take, a one month paid sabbatical.  Here is how some of our attorneys have spent their time.

"I wanted to immerse myself in Paris and to take a European vacation that did not leave me exhausted ..."
Kristin Holland, Litigation

Kristin Holland spent her sabbatical in Paris, touring the city, reading and "generally taking a break from Los Angeles to live like a Parisian for a month." Kristin had been to the City of Lights once before, but only for a week, and had longed to return. "I wanted to immerse myself in Paris and to take a European vacation that did not leave me exhausted, so I chose to stay in one place for the entire sabbatical," she explained.
"Being able to devote a significant amount of time to an art project was very valuable..."
Joni Jacobsen, Litigation

Joni Jacobsen used her sabbatical month to blend her art hobby with her new family life shortly after the birth of her second son, Blake. The resulting product was a pastel of a little boy attempting to golf with a full-sized club -- a subject that was inspired by her husband and two boys.
"He got down on his knee and proposed. People were applauding and flashing lighters...."
Christine Fitzgerald, Real Estate

Christine Fitzgerald knew when she left on her sabbatical vacation that she would be riding in planes, trains and water taxis -- but her voyage turned out to be far more eventful than she had originally predicted.
