Being an attorney is work, but it’s more than just legal work. It’s counseling clients ... it’s inspiring confidence ... it’s building relationships ... it’s learning from those before you and teaching those who come after you. It is many things that cannot be learned pouring over books or documents or cases or articles. So how will you learn it all? With mentoring.
At Katten, we believe that every interaction between our attorneys is an opportunity for mentoring. We assign our summer associates mentors, but we expect that they, like our associates, will take advantage of the open doors all over the firm to learn by doing, asking and observing. We encourage our summer associates to take advantage of opportunities to watch attorneys in their natural habitats (arguing motions, negotiating deals, taking depositions and counseling clients).
There are as many mentors at Katten as there are attorneys. Just walk through the open doors and you’ll find one.
