Aharon S. Kaye concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation. His experience encompasses securities class action defense, derivative actions, consumer fraud actions, white collar defense, tax controversy and tax litigation.
Mr. Kaye represents clients throughout all stages of litigation and arbitration, and in connection with internal investigations, criminal and civil government investigations, sensitive audits and negotiated resolutions with the IRS. He also routinely provides behind-the-scenes strategic counseling to clients and their other advisors on potential or existing tax-related disputes.
Recently, Mr. Kaye was on the trial team that won two of the first cases involving a "Midco" listed transaction to be tried in the U.S. Tax Court, saving the clients over $70 million in tax, penalties and interest. He also has contributed substantially to successful appellate briefs filed before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Illinois First District Appellate Court.
Mr. Kaye has a strong commitment to the provision of pro bono legal services. He has represented individuals seeking assistance through the Center for Disability and Elder Law, the Settlement Assistance Program conducted by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and those who have been wrongfully convicted.
Mr. Kaye earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hebrew Theological College in 2002 and his Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law in 2007, where he was a member of the DePaul Law Review. Upon graduating law school, Mr. Kaye was awarded a fellowship with the Public Interest Law Initiative at the DePaul University Center for Justice in Capital Cases. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Tax Court.
