Qualifications and Career Profile
Fred A. Hicks is a Partner of the Firm, resident in the Charlotte office. His practice focus consists of representation of parties in all aspects of matrimonial law. Mr. Hicks has extensive and wide-ranging experience in family law, including serving as a District Court Judge in 1975 and 1976. Mr. Hicks currently serves on the North Carolina Bar Association, Family Law CLE Committee and Family Law Council.
Associations and Committees
Mr. Hicks is a member of the American, North Carolina and Mecklenburg County Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice in all courts in North Carolina, in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Court for the Western and Middle Districts of North Carolina.
Mr. Hicks is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and served as First President of its North Carolina Chapter in 1997 and 1998. Mr. Hicks has actively served and chaired various committees of the North Carolina Bar Association including the Family Law Council, Long-Range Planning and the Continuing Legal Education Committees. He is a past member of the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. From 1974 to 1975, he served as a District Court Judge for the North Carolina General Court of Justice. He has spoken or has been a presenter at numerous family law seminars, is the holder of the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Service to the North Carolina Family Law Section in 1995, and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America in Family Law for over a decade. He has also been named one of the "Legal Elite" by Business North Carolina magazine, listed as a "Top 100 Super Lawyer in North Carolina" by North Carolina Super Lawyers (2005) and as a "Super Lawyer" in North Carolina Super Lawyers (2006-2009).
Education
Mr. Hicks earned an undergraduate degree (B.A., 1965) from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree (J.D., 1968) from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Law School, where he served as a member of THE BENCH for The Holderness Moot Court Competition.
