NEW YORK – Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that Joshua S. Rubenstein, national chair of the Firm’s Trusts and Estates Practice and managing partner of its New York office, has been elected as Treasurer of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law (IAETL). Formed in 1975, the IAETL’s highly selective membership is composed of some of the world’s most distinguished trusts and estates attorneys. He was elected to the position on May 25.

With members in 26 countries throughout the world, the IAETL focuses its efforts on the analysis of the substantive international requirements and the tax consequences of the transfer of wealth, both during lifetime and at death. It also studies the entities through which wealth is transferred, including but not limited to corporations, partnerships, common law trusts, statutory trusts, foundations, and both common law and civil law bifurcated estates. In addition, it examines the use of such entities to preserve family businesses with multinational contacts, as well as the effect of marriage on property rights and the impact of divorce on property held by the spouses or either of them at the termination of the marriage.

Mr. Rubenstein’s trusts and estates practice encompasses a wide variety of private client matters on an international, national and local level, including personal and estate planning, the administration of estates and trusts, and contested Surrogate’s Court and tax proceedings for high net worth individuals, professionals, entrepreneurs, artists and others with unique intellectual property interests.

In addition to his newly elected position as Treasurer, Mr. Rubenstein is also an Academician and member of the Executive Council of the IAETL. He is also a Fellow and Regent of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, a Member of the U.K.-based Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. Mr. Rubenstein is a former chair of the Trusts & Estates Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and of the International Committee of the Real Property and Probate Section of the American Bar Association. He is also an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School and the author of the LexisNexis Answer Guide on New York Surrogate’s Court Practice.

Recently, Mr. Rubenstein was ranked in Chambers U.S.A. 2006 Guide as a top wealth management attorney, and was also named among the top wealth advisors in both North America and the world by U.K. financial publication Citywealth. He has also been named one of the "Best Lawyers in New York" by New York Magazine, one of the "Best Lawyers in America" by American Lawyer magazine, and one of the "Top 100 U.S. Attorneys" by both the Robb Report and Worth Magazine. Mr. Rubenstein is also listed in Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the World.
